Is it legal for an employer to set the timeclock ahead?
My employer sets the timeclock 6 minutes fast so if your 5 minutes early, on paper, you’re late by 1 minute. This could be grounds for firing or suspension.

No, this is not legal. An employer must pay an employee for all hours actually worked and must also keep accurate time records. Failure to do so violates labor law. You could contact the state department of labor to register a complaint, and/or speak with an employment law attorney to discuss the possibility of a lawsuit, including determining if it is worthwhile economically to do so.
