If my friend offered to create me a logo for my business and he then sent it to me, is this at all illegal to display on my website as my logo?

Is there any copyright I should be worried about or did that become void when he offered to make it and then sent it to me.

Copyright would initially belong to your friend as the creator. He can gift or give that copyright to you. Simply sending the logo to you does not by itself prove that he did this--for example, maybe he just sent it over to review. You should get something in writing stating that he is giving you all rights to the logo.
