CanI apply for disability benefits after my unemployment runs out?
I have kidney disease and just started dialysis. I was laid off from my job shortly before starting. I would like to continue collecting unemployment since it is higher than disability would be. Would I have trouble collecting disability when my unemployment runs out?

You definitely cannot collect both at the same time. Both are usually processed by the same state office so your best bet is to speak with legal aid and see if this is something that they would recommend you do. Talk to your counselor and see if you can apply for disability and indicate you expect that to kick in when unemployment runs out or see if you can apply for an extension on unemployment.
