Your ex will need to sign a quitclaim deed.  A quitclaim deed will release your ex's ownership right, title, interest or claim in the property to you.  The quitclaim deed needs to be signed in the presence of a notary and then recorded.  Recorded means filed with the County Recorder's Office.

The language in a quitclaim deed would say, I______ (name of your ex) by this quitclaim deed hereby release my entire interest, right, title, claim in the property described as ____________ (address of property) to ___________ (your name).

This quitclaim deed should be signed and dated in the presence of a notary and then recorded (filed) with the County Recorder's Office.
