Do we need a lawyer to get proof of payment from a collection agency?
A company filed a case against us. They won we’ve been making payments for three years. We would like proof of payments. The company claims they will only speak to us through a lawyer. We don’t know our current balance. Do we really need a lawyer to get proof of payment?

You shouldn't. Perhaps the company means they want you to talk to their lawyer? I would contact the lawyer who handled the case for the company, the case you lost. That individual should be willing to help you or tell you who to talk to to get that information.
