If it was disclosed to you prior to renting (or renewing a lease or tenancy) that there would be surveillance camers in these areas and you consented to that (including implicitly consenting, by agreeing to rent with knowledge of the cameras), then it would be legal. The landlord may not install them during the middle of a lease term withuout your consent, and may not have hidden cameras that you did not consent to.
