What to do if my insurer is requiring me to obtain lab tests and and report the findings to them or they will reduce my benefit by 50%?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida are now requiring me to obtain lab tests and submit findings to them or they will reduce my benefits by 50%. I already complied last year and now this year with their Dedicated Nurse Advisor Program, which requires I speak with their employee about my health issues on a quarterly schedule or my benefits would be reduced by 50%. I see the my doctor every 3 months and we are managing my health issues. Now this latest requirement is even more invasive. Is this legal?

You first need to carefully read your insurance policy with your medical insurance carrier with respect to the additional information that is being requested of you to ascertain if such a request is allowed.

If not, you do not have to provide such information to your health care insurer, but if you do not, you might end up upon renewal getting the benefits that you presently have.

I suggest that you speak with your treating physician about this isue, an attorney that practices in the area of medical insurance law and call your state's department of insurance about what you are writing about.

From what you have written, it seems that you comply with the request or possibly end up with reduced benefits in the future.
