Company History: The Wausau Insurance Companies are part of the Boston based Liberty Mutual Group of companies. The lead Wausau company, Employers Insurance Company of Wausau was formed in 1911 to provide workers’ compensation coverage which was then a newly approved Wisconsin benefit for workers. In 2002 a new corporate structure was put in place that made Employers Insurance Company of Wausau and 3 other companies subsidiaries of Liberty Mutual Group.
Principle Sales Methods: Commercial markets are served by a direct sales force, national and regional brokers and benefit and risk management consulting firms.

Special Business: The Wausau companies, headed by Employers’ Insurance of Wausau primarily provide commercial insurance products and services to businesses. In addition to commercial auto, general liability, property worker’s compensation and other insurance products the companies provide loss prevention, claims management and managed care services to businesses.
