I was parked on a beach parking lot. High tide came in while I was fishing and flooded my car. Is this safe claim or considered negligent.

Auto insurance covers you for incidents that are caused by you, even if “negligent” or not properly done. If you have comprehensive coverage on your car, the water damage will be covered, less your deductible. If the engine and/or interior of your car were badly damaged by the water, your car could be considered a total loss, especially if the water was salt water. In that event, you will be paid the “actual cash value” of your car, as determined by local prices for a similar car or the Blue Book or similar reference book on car values. This may not be what you think your car is worth, but unless you can prove a higher value, that will be all you will collect for your car, again, less your deductible. It is not recommended that you try to fix the car since the damage from the salt water can take time to appear in the damage to your engine and/or interior.
