A homeowner policy will add an additional insured for liability purposes, usually at no cost. However, the additional insured does not have the right to make any changes to the insurance policy. Only the named insured can make a change, or cancel the insurance. If there are any changes made by the named insured, the additional insured will usually get a copy of the change, simply for their information. If the parties in question were a named insured, and not an additional insured, they still would not have the right to cancel or change the policy unless they were the first named insured. If you, as life tenant is listed first, then only you can make any changes to the policy or to cancel it.If the insurance agent or company allowed changes to be made by the additional insureds, they were in error and they can be held legally responsible if there was a loss that was not covered due to the error.
