Whether or not your girlfriend can live with you in the rental that you are occupying depends upon what the presumed written lease that you have states. As such, I would carefully read it in that its terms and conditions control the obligations owed to you by the landlord and vice versa in the absence of conflicting state law.
If the lease does not say what the number of occupants in the rental is, then your girlfriend can live with you in the rental so long as there is no zoning violation concerning the number of occupants for the space you occupy.
